backflow preventers that need to be tested

Washoe County Sheriff’s detectives have arrested two men who they believe to be responsible for the theft of over 20 backflow devices in late January and early February. Backflow prevention devices are often targeted by metal thieves looking to recycle the valuable brass and copper backflow parts. In areas with cold winters, like Reno and surrounding areas, thieves target backflows during the winter months when irrigation systems are turned off. “If you haven’t already looked, go and look.” Reno police Lt. William Rulla said, “a lot of these backflows, when the season gets warmer … they realize they’ve been stolen.” Members of the community believe more pressure needs to be put on the recyclers, making sure they don’t pay for property that has been stolen. The best defense for a backflow owner is to secure it!
